Press Release
October 20th, 2014, Auburn, CA- The Ultra Race of Champions (UROC) has announced its most anticipated relocation beginning in 2015: Auburn, California, the Endurance Capital of the World. Following its mission to create the Championship for the sport of ultra distance running and maintaining the inclusive quality of the sport, the UROC Race Committee has selected Auburn as its new host location because of Auburn’s long history with endurance races and plethora of accessible and beautiful trails along the American River and on the foothills of the Sierra. “Auburn is well equipped and well versed for endurance races, already hosting several long distance running and biking events” says Gill, the Event Organizer. “The area is extremely beautiful and easily accessible from San Francisco, Sacramento and Reno and has all the qualities and amenities we looked for when searching for a new host location of this Championship event.”
“There are two big reasons to be excited about the UROC endurance event coming to Auburn.” Says Bridget Powers, Mayor of Auburn. “First, as an endurance runner, it will be an incredible canyon adventure for the running community. Second, the City of Auburn and its residents are always game for new challenges that showcase our great community. As the Mayor of Auburn and as an endurance runner, I want to thank the UROC team for recognizing this great city as the perfect location for this highly acclaimed event. We look forward to seeing all participants on September 26th and I need to get started training on the trails!”
Bad to the Bone Endurance Sports, the company behind the Ultra Race of Champions, will partner with NorCalUltras and its founder and CEO, Julie Fingar. “Julie is not only a long time friend,” says Dr. Francesca Conte, Bad to the Bone President, “but also one of the best race directors in the industry. We look forward to working with her and NorCalUltras to produce the best and most exciting Ultra Race of Champions to date. With Auburn as the background and Julie as a partner, the 2015 UROC is going to be unforgettable for all the participants.”
“Having UROC in my backyard is very exciting” says Julie Fingar. “I personally know and train on the trails where the race will be run and can attest to their beauty. Participants will love the course and I cannot wait to showcase it during the race. I really look forward to working with Gill and Francesca to put on a World-class event.”
“The history, running culture and trail system in Auburn will make the 2015 and beyond edition of UROC truly memorable” says Conte. “For a Championship style event, we cannot ask for a better synergy.” More information on this unique and spectacular course can be found at ultraroc.com. The race will cover 100 kilometers of some of the most spectacular terrain in the area, including lesser-known trails. The event will include the Über Rock 50K and Cruxy Half Marathon.
