Erie, Pennsylvania, October 20. Fran Albaugh, age 90 of Erie, Pennsylvania clocked 30 miles at the Presque Isle 12-Hour race, becoming the first nonagenarian to complete an ultramarathon. The race is run on a mostly paved, flat one-mile loop. The weather turned really nasty the last few hours, with sideways blowing wind and chilly temps and most of the runners left the course after 8 or 9 hours. But Albaugh stuck through the entire 12 hours, completing his last lap with less than 12 minutes remaining.
